Hello,
I’ve just installed this plugin to backup my wordpress installation.
I only have directories in the backup archives and sql file is missing too.
WordPress 4.9.6
BackWPup 3.6.0
Can you help me ? Is this a known issue ?
Regards,
Warax
The plugin is requiring Auth Token for sugarsync remote storage. Where can I find it?
Version 3.6
Several sites – Use of Download link in Manage Backup Archives fails. After clicking the download link a window opens with “Please wait …” message. Download does not occur.
A different site – Download occurs but Please Wait window stays open.
Bonjour à toutes et à tous,
j’utilise depuis des années BackWPup sur mon site WordPress pour sauvegarder, et depuis quelques semaine j’ai une erreur lors de ma sauvegarde:
AVERTISSEMENT : ftp_nb_fput(): php_connect_nonb() failed: Operation now in progress (115)
[08-Jul-2018 11:44:49] AVERTISSEMENT : ftp_nb_fput(): Entering Passive Mode (213,186,33,204,96,0)
[08-Jul-2018 11:44:49] ERREUR : Impossible de transférer la sauvegarde vers le serveur FTP !
Pourtant j’accède bien à mon ftp via filezilla.
Pouvez vous m’aider à résoudre ce problème svp.
Merci d’avance
Cordialement
It appears this issue is wide spread, and I did not want to bury this in a past post, so I am posting a-new here and in detail.
This is what I found,
ZIP Archive
BackwPup did archive the entire WP site, with the core folders, uploads, theme folder, plugin folder etc and root files, but…
Viewing Archive
Windows ZIP utility – to view the ZIP archive, WP root files were missing. The WP core folders and all other folders/files were there, but not the WP root files as “wp-config.php” etc.
7-Zip – to view the ZIP archive, there was a folder named “.” (yes, just a period for a folder name) and that contained the root files of the WP website. This “.” folder was not visible using the Windows zip utility to view it.
Tar / Tar.Gz / Tar.Bz2 Archives
7-Zip – viewing the archives, there were only the root files. These archive formats failed to archive the rest of the WP site as core folders etc.
Extracting – ZIP
Windows Zip Utility – failed to extract the WP root files. It did
extract the WP core folder and all other folders and files. I believe this is because it could not see the “.” named folder that the plugin created to store the root files.
7-Zip – extracted the root files and all other folders and files of the WP website. This is likely because it was able to see the “.” named folder.
Extracting – Tar
7-Zip – extracted only the root files, WP core folders and all other folders and files were missing. 7-Zip extraction also showed an error,
"Headers Error
Warnings:
There are some data after the end of the payload data"
Extracting – Tar.Gz
7-Zip – extracted to a .tar archive. Extracting the .tar archive created an extension-less file and generated an error,
"Warning:
Can not open the files as [tar] archive
The file is open as [gzip] archive"
Opening the extension-less file (like an archive) extracted the root WP files but the WP core folders and all other folders and files were missing. 7-Zip generated an error,
"Headers Error
Warnings:
There are some data after the end of the payload data"
Another problem, the extraction created a duplicate “wp-config.php” file for some reason.
Extracting – Tar.Bz2
7-Zip – extracted as a .tar archive. Extracted the .tar archive which gave the WP root files, but missing were WP core folders and other folders and files.
Same other problem, the extraction was creating a duplicate “wp-config.php” file for some reason.
Settings
BackwPup settings was set to include all WP Website folders and files, which means that any of the archives were suppose to be useable to re-install the website in its entirety if needed, but above shows this is not the case.
Conclusion:
The plugin has erred a lot here. It creates a ZIP archive that Windows cannot read properly and creates the other archive formats missing a lot of folders and files.
I am not able to manually download backups on several sites I manage. When I click the download link, from the topbar icon, or from the Dashboard BackWPup Backups submenu, the white box with “Please wait…” pops up, and nothing else happens.
I have reproduced this in multiple browsers and on multiple sites. They are all on the same host so far, but I am also able to download backups of other sites in the same account on the same host without a problem, so it can’t be a server issue. The sites have no plugins in common other than BackWPup and Wordfence (and I am able to download normally from many sites with Wordfence).
I had posted to another thread someone else started abut this same issue, which you closed without an apparent resolution. You told that poster to press F12 when “Please wait” came up, and report any error messages that appeared on the Console tab, so I tried that on two sites. Both showed:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1
load-scripts.php:9:542
In addition, one of them also showed:
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at wss://public-api.wordpress.com/pinghub/wpcom/me/newest-note-data.
rest-proxy:6:4244
When I tried to download from the same site using Chrome, I got this:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1
?v=2.0:6 WebSocket connection to ‘wss://public-api.wordpress.com/pinghub/wpcom/me/newest-note-data’ failed: Error during WebSocket handshake: Unexpected response code: 403

I hope you can provide a fix for this soon. I have worked very hard to persuade my clients to donwload their backups on a regular basis, and now download isn’t working. I can download them via FTP, of course, but most of my clients don’t have that level of technical comfort.
Hi,
By default BackWPup exclude .tmp files which seems appropriate. The issue is that when this setting exists it is also excluding .tmpl files wich are entirely different type of file. Excluding template files (.tmpl) causes a missing file issue.
I removed a free version of this plugin a long time ago, but there’s still 3 additional user roles on the sites from it. Is there some way I can remove those?
I installed it on a Multisite WordPress installation.
Thanks
Hi there
If I run the job for testing, I receive following message:
“Job “backup_kurse.kahlweiss.ch” has started, but not responded for 10 seconds.”
What’s wrong with it? When I go to debug info and back to the job, it will save on the FTP properly!
Can somebody help?
Magnus
I have created a full backup using the plugin and when navigating to back ups this is now visible.
However, when I click on download a small window opens, all white with only the text displaying “Please wait…”
No download happens.
How can I fix this?
After updating from v3.6.0 to v3.6.3, it’s shown additional error message on log:
Array ( [0] => /home/mysite.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-cfxxxx-temp/my_wpdb.sql [1] => /home/mysite.com/public_html/wp-config.php [2] => /home/mysite.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-cfxxxx-temp/MySite.pluginlist.2018-11-14.txt [3] => /home/mysite.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-cfxxxx-temp/manifest.json [4] => /home/mysite.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-cfxxxx-temp/backwpup_readme.txt )
Is it okay or it need to be fixed?
Thanks
So far this nice plugin has been a good companion with all my attempts at wordpress over the last 12 months. Today, in one of my local test installations of WP, I get this message:
“BackupWordPress was created by our friends at HumanMade but is now owned by XIBO. We’re committed to opensource and WordPress and will provide free support for the many BackupWordPress fans. However, we’ll no longer be selling or supporting the paid add-ons (e.g. for backups to Dropbox and Google Drive). […]”
Does that mean this plugin is going to die? After some online research I decided to switch to BackWPup for testing with the test install mentioned above.
Thanks to the guys from HumanMade, for this great plugin.
Hello, im in a bit of a trouble.
I updated WooCommerce on my site, unfortunately almost everything disappeared after. So I thought I would restore from my BackWPup. But then the other problem comes.. When I download the backup the sql file I need to import to php my admin, is simply not there when I extract the zip file.
Anyone that could help?
Thanks a million in advance.
Sebastian
Just noticed that wp-content and wp-includes directories are missing from backups. No matter if they are checked or not in the job settings. I have noticed this problem in many sites and servers.
I’m using latest WP (5.0.1) and plugin (3.6.6)
Please check this issue quickly, this is a serious issue!
Hi,
I’m using the free version of backWPup.
The option to make backups to ftp is grey out. It says missing function ftp_nb_fput
What could be the reason of this ? And how can I solve this ?
Cheers!
Sonny
Have been a huge fan of backwpup then I moved to siteground and began to see problems with the backwpup plugin. It is taking upwards of 20 minutes to back up a 100mb site. When I launch a backup it seems to hang on the compression part. Last backup was 1279 seconds. On previous host that was a sub 2 minute task. I am running PHP 7.3 with all other plugins up to date. They are: Antispam bee, Classic Editor, Disable REST API, Etsy Shop,Google Analytics by webkinder, insert headers and footers, mailchimp for wordpress, remove query strings from static resources, SG Optimizer, UpdraftPlus, Wordfence Security and Yoast SEO.

After updating to BackWPup 3.6.8 and WordPress 5.1.1, all backup jobs fail, both chron and manual. I run separate backups for theme, sql, uploads, etc. Error message ‘WARNING: mysqli::real_connect(): Headers and client library minor version mismatch. Headers:100219 Library:100313’ PHP version 7.0. ‘host allows at least 300.00 MB memory for each PHP process’. I compacted the DB, I repaired the DB. I deleted and reinstalled the plugin. Small standalone website. Oddly it runs ok with same versions on a multisite. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Added 5 jobs (3 emails & 2 to dropbox) with logs result OK, but nothing received in email nor in dropbox.
dropbox Authenticated and Destination Folder /backup4booking/ is not found in dropbox.
Any suggestion…
Thanks, Sam
